US Chamber energy expert Matt Koch said President Obama's delay of the Keystone XL Pipeline wasn't "unexpected," but said, "We're incredibly disappointed. We certainly feel that this waves in the face of thousands of Americans who are trying to get back to work and a lot of the American industry and people who understand that this energy's important to our country and important to our economy, and is also going to mean a lot for jobs..." Koch said the energy would have made the US less reliant on countries that don't share US ideals and values and said, "we need to understand that if we don't bring it in from Canada, at this point we're bringing it in from other places in the world. And that certainly has other sorts of residual and perhaps greater environmental impacts than brining it in from our friendly ally to the north." When asked about Canada's reaction to the decision, Koch said the country indicated it may export the oil to the Pacific, as the US as said, "we're not open for business."
