Fairbanks Daily News: Parnell, oil and roads

UPDATE (Wednesday): Parnell said yesterday capital grant money for the Dalton Highway and a proposed road to Umiat are safe as he prepared to sign the capital budget. He told the Resource Development Council in Anchorage the final capital budget, when he signs it — and vetoes parts — will "include $8 million for Dalton Highway to Umiat. It will include $43 million for Dalton Highway so we can demonstrate that our lifeline to Alaska’s and America’s energy production will be maintained."

"Here in Alaska, we have a solution to the nation’s foreign oil dependency. It’s called American oil. We can produce here at home. The Secure Our Future Initiative is about increasing domestic oil production from Alaska and other parts of the U.S.
