House Sends Strong Bipartisan Message On Need For EPA To Ensure GHG Regulations Do Not Harm American Jobs, Economy

Press Release

Washington, D.C., March 6, 2014 – The Partnership for a Better Energy Future (PBEF) today applauded passage of H.R. 3826, the “Electricity Security and Affordability Act.” This bipartisan legislation will require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to set a more reasonable path forward for regulating power plant emissions. PBEF represents over 80 percent of the U.S. economy and is comprised of more than 100 organizations. The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are co-chairs of this coalition that serves as the leading voice in support of a unified strategy and message in response to the Obama Administration’s greenhouse gas regulatory agenda.

“This vote is a critical step toward ensuring manufacturers have access to affordable and reliable energy to remain competitive in a global economy,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “As users of one-third of the nation’s energy, manufacturers cannot withstand new GHG regulations that force some energy sources out of the economy. We hope the Senate will act quickly to pass this bill and require the EPA to adhere to a true ‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy.”

“The House vote demonstrates strong bipartisan concerns that the Obama Administration and EPA's aggressive regulations on greenhouse gases will destroy American jobs and compromise an already weak economy,” said Karen Harbert, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber Institute for 21st Century Energy. “EPA still has time to show it has considered the extensive concerns of the business community – and now the House of Representatives – regarding the multitude of regulations that will impact our nation's energy and economic system for the foreseeable future.”

The Partnership has been active in its support for H.R. 3826.
