Most Ohioans think drilling will spur economic growth

CANTON — Ohioans are split, but a majority think drilling the state’s shale oil and gas deposits will spur economic growth.
 
Fifty-eight percent of respondents to a recent Huntington Bank consumer survey said the energy industry will bring economic opportunities, with 15 percent of those surveyed expecting a significant impact.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates shale development so far has created more than 38,800 jobs in Ohio and should add another 140,000 during the next eight years. Carroll County has the highest number of wells drilled and producing in the state.
