Join our efforts to undo Obama's job-killing regulations!

The U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century has been advocating for an energy policy that unlocks America’s resources, create jobs, and improves our national security.  After eight long years, we finally have the opportunity to move forward with pro-growth energy policies.

However, there remain a few obstacles in the way—and we need your help to overcome them.  In the waning days of his Administration, President Obama finalized a series of “midnight rules” that would seriously impede our ability to use homegrown American energy.

Fortunately, Congress can overturn these regulations using legislation called the “Congressional Review Act (CRA).”  The CRA provides a limited window of time for a retroactive legislative veto of these midnight rules.  We have been working with House and Senate leadership to ensure that these rules are brought for a vote—but we need you to weigh in with your Senators to make sure they vote to support American energy production.

Details on the regulations that need to be overturned can be found by scrolling down.

To ensure these resolutions receive strong support and are expedited to President Trump’s desk, Congress needs to hear from YOU ASAP.

The Senate will vote on this important regulation soon:

Bureau of Land Management Venting and Flaring Rule. BLM’s 11th hour regulatory action imposes costly and requirements on oil and natural gas production that will make energy development uneconomical in many areas. Rather than strengthen environmental practices, this command-and-control regulatory approach from Washington bureaucrats will simply chase energy developers away, reducing royalty revenues in the process. Ultimately, this regulation handcuffs the energy revolution, makes us more dependent on foreign sources of energy, and translates to higher costs for families and businesses.

Thanks to your messages, these two regulations were rolled back by Congress:

Department of Interior Stream Protection Rule. The so-called stream protection rule is a one-size-fits-all federal mandate that interferes with the longstanding federal-state balance in overseeing mining operations. It will place massive amounts of coal reserves—and the affordable energy they provide—off limits for production. The National Mining Association estimates that the rule would eliminate up to 270,000 jobs, including 80,000 mining jobs. The rule’s effects will be felt far beyond the coalfields, driving up energy costs for families and businesses, and reducing state and local tax revenues in areas of the country that have already been devastated in recent years. This means negative impacts to schools, roads, first responders and nearly all state and local government services in affected areas.

Securities and Exchange Commission resource extraction rule. This rule forces U.S. energy companies to disclose proprietary information that isn’t required of non-U.S. companies, putting foreign competitors at an advantage and negatively impacting American jobs. Similar rules from SEC have already been overturned by the courts because they violated free speech protections of the First Amendment.
