• U.S. Chamber Statement on Yucca Mountain Court Ruling

Press Release
August 13, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C.— In response to today’s ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ordering the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to rule on the Department of Energy’s application for permitting waste at Yucca Mountain, Christopher Guith, vice president of policy at the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, issued the following statement:

“Today’s ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court has reaffirmed what Congress determined long ago, but that the Executive Branch has been attempting to undermine.  The Nuclear Waste Policy Act explicitly set out the nation’s nuclear waste plan nearly 30 years ago.  The Court’s ruling reminds us that until the law is changed, Yucca Mountain is the nation’s used fuel and nuclear waste repository.  It’s time for the NRC to implement the law of the land.”

The mission of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy is to unify policymakers, regulators, business leaders, and the American public behind a common sense energy strategy to help keep America secure, prosperous, and clean.
