Our Mission

Energy is the single most important physical resource underpinning America's economic prosperity, national security, and global competitiveness. Yet our nation lacks a comprehensive energy strategy. Policies are often based on ignorance, complacency, and contradictory rules and objectives. There is a lack of public understanding about energy's essentiality. Governments, regulators, and the business community have become increasingly fragmented in their approaches to energy acquisition, power generation, infrastructure, and the closely linked issue of global climate change.

The purpose of the U.S. Chamber Institute for 21st Century Energy is to unify energy stakeholders and policymakers behind a common strategy to ensure that America's supply of fuel and power is adequate, stable, and affordable, while protecting national security, and improving the environment.

Through a comprehensive, fact-based program of education, advocacy, and consensus-building, the Institute will build support for energy acquisition from traditional and alternative sources, a superior infrastructure to move fuel and power to consumers in a growing economy, increased energy efficiency, and the sound management of global climate change.

The Institute for 21st Century Energy will assemble staff, programs, and resources around the critical energy challenges facing the nation. Drawing on its own assets as well as those of the Chamber and its federation, the Institute will conduct research, run events, lobby governments, educate the public, engage thought leaders, mobilize grassroots activists, and work in the regulatory agencies, courts, states, and the international arena to advance its objectives.
